This project was a deep dive into the future of materials. From initial draping to final construction, working with UNCAGED ELEVATE was a masterclass in innovation. Its performance characteristics are unique, distinct from both traditional leather and synthetic pleathers, requiring a tailored approach from pattern to stitch.
Patterning & Draping: The process began with patterning a structured vest to establish a strong core silhouette. The dramatic, layered bolero was then designed to complement and enhance the base layer without overwhelming it. I used a stiff canvas to account for the stiffness of the leather itself.
Construction: The material cut cleanly with a rotary blade but demanded specific techniques for assembly. Using a walking-foot industrial machine was essential to manage its unique density. Through meticulous testing and adaptation, I achieved the crisp seams and flawless finish essential for a luxury product.
Result: The final garment is a testament to the possibilities of conscious design—luxurious, architectural, and 100% animal-free. It photographed with a stunning richness, capturing the material's texture and the design's powerful visual impact.
Being recognized among a small cohort of international designers for this work is a career highlight. It demonstrates a proven ability to innovate, adapt, and execute complex designs with the most cutting-edge sustainable materials available.
